What is
Orthodontics?
Orthodontics
is the art and science of straightening teeth and aligning jaws to
improve function and esthetics of the teeth and face.
Why do you want an Orthodontic specialist?
Orthodontists undergo all of the training of general dentists
first, and then dedicate at least two more years at a university
accredited by the American Dental Association to study this
highly specialized field.
All orthodontists are dentists first, however, all dentists who
do orthodontics are not licensed orthodontists.
Orthodontists will use terms such as "practice limited to
orthodontics", "orthodontic specialist",
"orthodontics exclusively", and /or belong to the
American Association of Orthodontists. If in doubt, ask
your dentist to refer you to an orthodontist displaying the AAO
Logo.
Do I need be referred for an Orthodontic consultation?

At what age should my child be examined to
determine if he or she will benefit from orthodontic services?

earlier if a problem is detected by parents, the family dentist,
or the child's physician.
