George M. Myracle, DDS  Orthodontist - Overjet

               Before Braces             After Braces

Class II Malocclusion with a Short Lower Jaw

This patient's lower jaw was shorter than normal.  She also had a tongue thrust habit.  The short lower jaw combined with the tongue thrust habit produced a mismatch between her upper and lower jaw.  You can see this in the lower left photo.  Most people refer to this condition as an overbite,  however it is technically an overjet.  Overjet is a discrepancy in the horizontal plane where as overbite is a discrepancy in the vertical plane.

Treatment consisted of aligning her upper and lower teeth with braces and using rubber bands to redirect her growth in her lower jaw into a normal relationship.
